HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO IT:

            1) NAHB Green Building Standard Designation-  The National Association of Home Builders has recently established "The National Green Building Standard" designation and J. Harris' Vice President is one of the first in the state of Alabama to achieve this honor.

This standard is the most recent and most robust effort undertaken by the home building industry to encourage green building in residential construction. The training and education received will be utilized throughout our company and the home building process. Everyone's co-operation will be enlisted to model green practices in our home office, on the jobsites and with our green building partners.

            2) Master Builders' Designation-  Our membership in the Master Builders' Program has also been renewed. Only an elite group of builders nationally belong to this quality program which is also sponsored by the NAHB.

            3) Eco Broker Designation-  Our broker in our real estate company has recently earned the Eco Broker designation. It provides energy and environmental training; as well as offering education on environmental issues such as radon, asbestos, lead, water, mold, indoor air quality, energy efficiency technologies and sustainable energy options. In turn our sales staff will be trained in order to better serve and educate our homeowners.

 MEASURING "GREEN"

Green building has entered the mainstream and is now more than just a common sense approach to reduce waste and energy consumption. In a June 2006 Harvard Business Review article, Building the Green Way, Charles Lockwood said, “Just five or six years ago, the term ‘green building’ evoked visions of tie-dyed, granola-munching denizens walking around barefoot on straw mats as wind chimes tinkled near open windows. Today, the term green building is not simply getting more respect; it is rapidly becoming a necessity as home builders and developers begin to push green building fully into the main-stream over the next five to ten years.”

At J. Harris our baseline products already have "Green Features" that offer a starting point as we continue to incorporate building materials and construction detailing that strive to increase the usefulness of the individual components, as well as the whole house.
